For the past 15 years, I have been on a mission to fully understand what it takes to skate faster and with greater efficiency. I have changed the way I teach skating mechanics several times as my understanding of the body and the skating stride has evolved immensely over time.
I have always understood that if you aren’t measuring you are guessing. Though I have been able to measure certain skating mechanics using video analysis, I have never been fully satisfied with the accuracy of hand timed skating data. I have also come to understand that the eye can play tricks on what we perceive to be slow and fast.
The technology has finally caught up to allow us to measure exact skating speeds and performance abilities on the ice.
We have partnered with Drive Hockey Analytics to utilize their player tracking technology and data base to provide the most accurate and objective data we can get at this time.
On ice data, combined with physical screening and assessments will uncover an individuals deficiencies that limit speed.
Two major components influence skating speed:
Your body’s capabilities (the engine), and your skating mechanics.
If your skating mechanics don’t allow you to express force/power in a meaningful way on the ice, the work you put in to “build a bigger engine” will have a minor impact on improving speed and vice versa.
By being able to address both the physical and mechanical development of an athlete with continued data and measuring, we can make better decisions so that you can train more efficiently and develop faster!
If you share a passion for wanting to improve your skating speed, I very much look forward to working with you this summer!
Coach Matt
Meet one on one with one of our coaches to establish your physical baselines for strength, power and mobility.
We want to get to know you and establish development goals for the summer.
Skate in our 1st performance combine to collect skating data.
The WinnPro coaches will analyze your physical and performance data to create a completely personalized off-ice training program to complement all of your summer on-ice training.
Two mechanically focused skates will occur between each combine skate to provide skaters with the bio-mechanical corrections to help improve their force/power application on the ice.
After each two week block, skaters will participate in another combine skate to measure progress against their individual goals.
Upon completion of the final combine skate and physical assessment, skaters will receive a report tracking their progress from start to finish.
